About the Hebrides
The Hebrides are known as the "long islands" as they stretch for 100 miles.  Lewis is at the top of the chain and Barra at the south.  Most of the islands are now joined by causeways, but there is still a ferry ride between  Leverburgh on Harris and Bernaray on North Uist and also between Eriskay and the Isle of Barra.  The list of main islands is shown on the hebs main menu.  Access to the islands can be either by ferry from Oban, Uig on Skye or Ulapool.  Air travel is also available from both Glasgow and Inverness.  For more detailed information about each island then either pick up one of our guides as you travel, or, go to our normal websites reached through www.explorescotland.net
